A Covenant Marriage



            Men and women were created to work toward exaltation together. Not alone. Together. In a world where individualism is becoming more prominent amongst society, it is getting more difficult for people to see how important marriage is. While I do believe in being able to be yourself within a marriage, I would hope that it would not lead to a distance between you and your spouse.
            Something that I have loved to get to learn more about is the Fall of Adam and Eve. A lot of Christian faiths see it as a necessary “evil.” To be honest, before I started learning more, I also thought this was what it was. But Adam and Eve took that leap of faith to experience “opposition in all things” But something that was a product of their choice was being able to have children. Having children and a family is necessary for eternal exaltation. Adam and Eve are the reason why we are all here and are able to make it back to the presence of God. I see what they did as something so heroic and selfless and should be treated as such.
            Satan is working hard to make people not want to get married or to hold it off until later in life. Even in my own life I am wanting to hold off marriage. I just don’t feel ready for it and I am not ready to have kids yet. Sure, I still want to get married and have kids, but just not at this point in my life. The older I get the less I want to get married, so looks like I need to get to work!
            We all need to be more adamant about sharing our beliefs and the importance of marriage and family. I know that I need to be better at doing this and staying to true to what has been taught in the gospel regarding this topic. As always, I hope that I can gain a greater understanding of marriage and strive to find my own eternal companion.

Beware of Pride

In President Ezra Taft Benson's talk, Beware of Pride , he says, "At the end of this world, when God cleanses the earth by fire, the proud will be burned as stubble and the meek shall inherit the earth." Afterall, it was Lucifer that fell because of his pride. I have to admit, and I am sure many of us can attest to, it that we are all prideful at one time or another. We need to always be aware of our pride and willing to humble ourselves to fix this sin. Something that I love that President Benson points out is how there is no such thing as "righteous pride." Pride, in its entirety, is a sin. Being prideful is "pitting or will against God's." This is the opposite of what we should be doing. In every aspect of our lives, we should be striving to become closer to God by trusting in His plan and always be willing to submit our will to His. This is something that I really struggle with.          In Gottman's  The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work , it discusses how the first step in turning toward each other starts with the “mini-moments.” It is those small acts of love, affection, and romance where a strong relationship is built. In Gottman’s             There are many people who believe that it is those grand adventures or gestures of affection is how you show love to your spouse. But we need to remember that we need to keep the flame burning. We can’t always go on big vacations or receive expensive gifts to feel like we are being appreciated, or expecting your partner to feel appreciative of you.
