"Lamentation" by Arta Romney Ballif

If you have not read the poem, Lamentation, by Arta Romney Ballif, I HIGHLY suggest you do. Generally, I am not one who reads nor likes poetry, I am very particular about the kind that I like. This poem will make you feel so many feelings. For me, I felt sadness for Eve, I felt empathy, I felt that she would come to understand the meaning of the experiences brought out by Cain killing Abel.             “Cain cursed? What has happened to him? God said, ‘A fugitive and a vagabond?’ But God can’t do that. They are my sons, too. I gave them birth in the valley of pain. Adam, try to understand. In the valley of pain, I bore them. Fugitive? Vagabond?” You can feel her confusion and her pain. She loves both her sons greatly, no matter what one of them did. I love where she says, “They are my sons, too.” She understands that that her sons are God’s sons too, but they are hers, too.             I am not a mother, not yet. So, I can only imagine what she was feeling in these m

The Natural Man

Mosiah 3:19 says, “For the natural man is an enemy of God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.”             The natural man is the hardest things to overcome, at least for me. We have these desires that may not line up with the gospel and it is hard to veer away from what Satan is tempting us with. Satan uses a great tool—the world—to entice us and tempt us, to do anything that could lead us further away from the teachings of the Jesus Christ. What I love about this scripture, is that is says we need to become as a child. Children are unquestionably the closest thing to heaven. The

A Covenant Marriage

Men and women were created to work toward exaltation together. Not alone. Together. In a world where individualism is becoming more prominent amongst society, it is getting more difficult for people to see how important marriage is. While I do believe in being able to be yourself within a marriage, I would hope that it would not lead to a distance between you and your spouse.             Something that I have loved to get to learn more about is the Fall of Adam and Eve. A lot of Christian faiths see it as a necessary “evil.” To be honest, before I started learning more, I also thought this was what it was. But Adam and Eve took that leap of faith to experience “opposition in all things” But something that was a product of their choice was being able to have children. Having children and a family is necessary for eternal exaltation. Adam and Eve are the reason why we are all here and are able to make it back to the presence of God. I see what they did
